Ceramic fibre materials

THERMOfrax materials belonging to the family of ceramic fibre products. Ceramic fibres are also often called either RCF (Refractory Ceramic Fibre) or ASW (Alumina Silicate Wool) fibres and are especially pure high temperature glass fibers (HTGF).

THERMOfrax ceramic fibres are characterized by high flexibility, extreme less weight, less thermal conductivity and heat storage. Ceramic fibres have excellent thermal shock resistance and are suitable for permanent high temperature use at critical conditions. Due to the purity THERMOfrax ceramic fibres have a high chemical resistance with regard to a lot of substances (except Fluoride and Phosphorous compounds, Alkalis) and are available in many different product forms and classification temperatures typically in between 1250° C and 1600°C.

Advantages of Ceramic fibre products

What are the advantages of THERMOfrax materials for industrial furnaces and Thermal plant units:

  • Extreme low thermal conductivity
  • Extreme less thermal heat capacity
  • Excellent Thermal shock resistance
  • Very flexible for different plant operations
  • Easy and fast installation and replacement
  • Very good price-performance ratio

Our THERMOfrax-Blankets are needled on both sides with a limited shot content, a respectful tensile strength, a high degree of flexibility and an elastic recovery. The blankets are completely inorganic products and do not develop any harmful vapor during initial heating-up. In case of wetting the ceramic fibers either with oil, water or steam, the thermal properties remain as originally after drying. THERMOfrax-Blankets can be easily cut and to be used for the preparation of high density ceramic fibre modules. Our ceramic fibers are the basis for energy-efficient refractory linings particularly high thermal resistant up to application temperatures of 1600°C.

Our THERMOfrax-BLOCK modules are manufactured at our production located in Duisburg. The raw material for modules is the premium THERMOfrax-Blankets. The modules are available in densities of 160-210 kg/m3 and dimensions up to 600mm in length. The modules are made individually in terms of dimensions and anchoring system. In addition to standard module sizes our manufacturing is also prepared for wedge modules, ceramic fibre modules with center anchoring and also with notches. Of course, corrosion and heat resistant anchor material will always be used.

THERMOfrax-BOARD is a vacuum-formed ceramic fibre product. Because of the vacuum shaping technology various shapes can be produced. Molded ceramic fibre vacuum shaped parts will be called THERMOfrax-VAC whilst straight boards have got our brand name THERMOfrax-BOARD. Different types and compositions are available for different temperature classifications from 1250°C-1800°C and densities of 300-500 kg/m³. In addition, the surface of the ceramic fiber vacuum shapes and boards can be provided with hardeners and coatings as required sometimes for special applications.

THERMOfrax-PACK are cut ceramic fibre stripes. THERMOfrax packing stripes will be cut to the designed insulating thickness. The base material is THERMOfrax-BLANKET. These stripes usually with a common density of 130 kg/m³ are placed perpendicular to the hot flue gas direction and compacted during installation to bulk densities of 150-160 kg/m³. The fixed ceramic fiber packing stripes will be fastened mechanically either with THERMOfixx anchors or glued on expanded metal by using THERMOmixx-K 1300 adhesive. The surface of the vertically laid ceramic fiber packing stripes can additionally be coated with a special coating. This will increase the chemically resistance of the surface and the abrasion resistance required for hot flue gas velocities up to 30 m/s.

THERMOfrax-PAPER & FELT are ceramic fibre papers and felts. Our ceramic fibre papers & felts are made of washed ceramic fibres and mixed with an organic binder. These products have good flexibility, are „free from crystals“, smooth and easy to install. Ceramic fibre papers and felts are typically used for thin thermal insulations from 1mm to a maximum of 25mm.

THERMOfrax-TEX are ceramic fibre textiles such as ceramic fibre ropes, ceramic fibre packages or ceramic fibre textures for high application temperatures. THERMOfrax textiles are extremely flexible and have excellent thermal insulation properties. Ceramic fibre textiles consist of long ceramic fibres and an organic material supporting the matrix. Additionally, THERMOfrax-TEX ceramic fiber ropes and ceramic fiber packages are reinforced by either chrome wires or glass fibre. These products are ideally prepared for thermal sealings to be used for flanges.

THERMOfrax-MASTIC materials are compounds developed for maintenance of fibre furnace linings. THERMOfrax-Mastic is available either in buckets or in 330ml cartridges for easy filling of joints. The easy processing allows precise filling of joints and also maintenance of fibre surfaces. Some extremely stressed areas in the burner area can be protected with the material THERMOfrax-Mastic 160. An external dry-out is not required after partial repairs with this material.
